SECONDARY 1 TO 4 GEOGRAPHY

O Level Geography Tuition for Pure (2279) and Elective (2260) Geography

Small-group and 1-to-1 secondary Geography tuition taught by Mr Eric Goh, author of the model answers in the GCE O Level Geography Ten Year Series. Separate Sec 4 classes for Pure and Elective students, built on the syllabus SEAB examines in 2026.

Classes at Novena and Kembangan, with online seats. Fees from $250 a month.

Secondary Geography Tuition Built on the Current O Level Syllabus

O Level Geography changed in 2024. Pure Geography is now examined under syllabus 2279, and Geography taken as the elective in Combined Humanities is examined under 2260. Rivers, coasts, tropical rainforests, food resources, health and disease, and urbanisation are no longer exam topics, but plenty of notes and assessment books still teach them.

GeogCafe’s O Level Geography tuition is written around the papers students sit today. Pure Geography students cover all five clusters, including Singapore, and prepare properly for the 20-mark fieldwork question. Elective students focus on the four clusters in their paper and the Section B choice between Climate and Tectonics.

Not sure which one your child is taking? The table below shows the difference.

Pure Geography (2279) Elective Geography (Combined Humanities 2260)
Papers 2 papers, 1 hr 45 min each, 50 marks each 1 paper, 1 hr 45 min, 50 marks (Social Studies is the other paper)
Clusters 5: Everyday Life, Tourism, Climate, Tectonics, Singapore 4: Everyday Life, Tourism, Climate, Tectonics (no Singapore)
Question choice All questions compulsory Answer either Climate or Tectonics in Section B
Highest-mark questions Fieldwork (Paper 1, 20 marks) and Singapore (Paper 2, 20 marks) Tourism and the Section B question (18 marks each)
Fieldwork 10-week extended fieldwork, examined in Paper 1 Question 1 Bite-sized fieldwork during the course
Levels-marked question One 9-mark question on each paper One 9-mark question on the paper

O Level Geography Tuition from Sec 1 to Sec 4

Sec 1 and Sec 2: build the skills early

Lower secondary lessons focus on the skills every later paper depends on: reading maps, graphs and photographs, describing patterns with data, and explaining them with a real example. Students who arrive in Sec 3 with these habits spend their exam years on content, not on catching up.

Sec 3: start the O Level course the right way

Sec 3 is when Pure and Elective students begin the clusters and meet their first structured questions. We teach Geographical Methods (Topic 1.3) early, because it underpins the fieldwork question and is easy to leave until too late.

Sec 4 Pure Geography (2279)

Sec 4 Pure classes work through both papers under timed conditions. Extra time goes to the two 20-mark questions, fieldwork and Singapore, and to the 9-mark question marked on level descriptors, which can appear in any of four clusters.

Sec 4 Elective Geography (2260)

Elective Geography is taught in the same class as Social Studies, because the two papers make up one Combined Humanities grade. Students learn to decide between Climate and Tectonics before the exam, not in it. See our Social Studies tuition page for the other half of the grade.

How a GeogCafe Geography Class Works

o level geog tuition

Lessons are built on two things Mr Goh has seen decide Geography grades for over 20 years: a solid understanding of the concepts, and the technique to apply them to questions students have not seen before.

  • Content in short, focused lessons, with notes organised by key question rather than by textbook chapter.
  • Question unpacking: reading command words and mark allocations so answers are as long as the marks need and no longer.
  • Practice every lesson, marked and returned with specific feedback.
  • Timed mock papers before Prelims and the O Levels, reviewed with each student.
  • Exclusive notes, case studies, school exam papers and model answers.
  • Questions answered on WhatsApp or Zoom between lessons.

Who Our O Level Geography Tuition Helps

  1. Students scoring C or below who need the concepts rebuilt before Prelims
  2. Students already in the A range who want to secure an A1
  3. Sec 3 students starting Pure or Elective Geography who want good habits from day one
  4. Students whose notes still cover rivers, coasts or other topics removed from the syllabus
  5. Students who cannot attend in person and need online lessons, or who prefer 1-to-1

O Level Geography Results

Based on GCE O Level results, every group and 1-to-1 student who studied with Mr Goh for close to a year scored at least an A2 for Elective or Pure Geography. In one year, every student in the Sec 4 Kembangan class scored A1 for Geography except one, who scored A2.

O Level Geography Tuition: Common Questions

Pure Geography (2279) is a full subject with two papers, five clusters and a 10-week fieldwork task. Elective Geography is one of two papers in Combined Humanities (2260). It has four clusters, no Singapore cluster, and a choice between Climate and Tectonics.

No. Under 2279 and 2260, rivers, coasts, tropical rainforests, food resources, health and disease, and urbanisation are no longer examined. If your notes still cover them, they were written for the old syllabus.

Sec 3 is the best time, because fieldwork methods and answering technique take a year to build. Students do still join in Sec 4, including after Prelims, and the class schedule makes room for that.

Group classes start from $250 a month

Yes. Group classes run physically and online at the same time, and online students receive the same notes and marked practice.
